Data

Numbers are where the company proves its work, so they get the same care as the words: a validated color order, thin marks, quiet axes, labels where they help, and a table behind every chart. The charts on this page use example data.

01 · Color

Six series, in a fixed order.

Current, the parent's teal, leads, then Iris, Rose, Harbor, Brass and Plum. The order is the safety mechanism: each color was generated at one lightness in OKLCH and the order chosen so neighboring series stay apart for color-blind readers (worst adjacent ΔE 11.3 light, 10.6 dark; target 8) and every color clears 3:1 on its card. A seventh series folds into Other.

Sequential · one hue

Mint into Evergreen, light to dark, for magnitude. For ordered steps (tiers, stages) start at Mint 300 so the lightest still shows on white.

Diverging · two poles

Rose below, Current above, a grey middle that means nothing. Equal steps on each side.

Status · reserved

  • On track
  • Needs attention
  • Blocked

Never a series color, never alone: always an icon and a word.

02 · Anatomy

Thin marks, quiet axes, labels where they help.

03 · Rules

What every chart does.

Always

  • Pick the form for the job: a number gets a stat tile, change over time a line, comparison a bar.
  • Bars start at zero, no thicker than 24px, with a 4px rounded end; touching marks keep a 2px gap.
  • Lines 2px; end markers 8px with a ring in the surface color.
  • Axis text 11px in the tertiary ink; gridlines are hairlines, solid, and few.
  • A legend for two or more series, plus a direct label at the end of each line.
  • Values in text colors, never in the series color; numbers in tabular figures.
  • A hover tooltip and a table view behind every chart.

Never

  • Two y-axes on one chart. Use two charts, or index both to a common start.
  • Red and green for bad and good, or amber for anything but a warning.
  • Pies, donuts, 3D, gradients or shadows on marks.
  • A number on every point, or a label clipped by its own bar.
  • Colors that change when a filter changes; a series keeps its color.
  • A chart where a sentence would do.
